The plays of William Shakespeare were written to be performed, not studied in classrooms, and one of our core commitments at Vermont Rep is to make high quality productions accessible to new generations of theatre-goers.
We are proud to offer free entry to anyone 16 or under (accompanied by a full paying adult), as well as $10 tickets for students.
Presented at Isham Barn Theatre in Williston Vermont, as part of the First: Earth Summer Series.
Written in 1593, The Comedy of Errors is not a complicated play, but it is definitely a funny one. Audiences will have no trouble at all understanding this sumptuous and hilarious production of Shakespeare’s first and shortest comedy.
At its root, it is a farcical tale of mistaken identity and misunderstanding, set in the Mediterranean port of Ephesus with its ancient alleys and markets teeming with alchemists, witches and wily merchants. The stage overflows with quirky, feisty and colorful characters, all of whom leap to all of the worst possible conclusions with the utmost possible speed. It is a harum-scarum Elizabethan romp, full of slap-stick comedy and witty word-play.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Vermont Repertory Theatre is committed to telling theatrical stories in a simple and straightforward manner.
The Isham Barn Theatre, beautifully transformed into an exotic spice market, provides an exquisite theatrical background for exactly that - a stage full of gorgeous costumes, live music and whacky comedy, ultimately allowing this hilarious play to stand on its own two feet, exactly the way Shakespeare intended.
